Candlewood Valley Health Center Announces Its:
First Annual Senior Creative Writing Contest
Deadline for Submissions June 1, 2021-
NEW MILFORD, CT — Litchfield and Fairfield County residents ages 60 and older are invited to submit an original story focusing on a special experience, person, or period of time in your life to Candlewood Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center. Deadline for entries is June 1st, 2021.
“Undoubtedly seniors have led interesting lives, filled with historical experiences and life lessons we can all learn from and delight in,” said Melissa Marici, Community Outreach at Candlewood Valley. “Our newly developed Creative Writing Contest provides a platform for one generation to share their stories with younger generations. It’s a prompt to urge the process along – to make it a reality,” she added.
The contest prizes include (1) $200 Amazon gift card for first place, (1) $100 Amazon gift card for second place and (4) $25 Amazon gift cards for third place stories.
“We are anticipating a large turnout for this contest based on the volume of entries we typically receive for our photography and cooking contests. We are trying to encourage the seniors in our local communities to stay creatively tuned in, especially during this pandemic,” said Cindy LaCour, Social Service, Candlewood Valley.
The contest rules are as follows:
*Writers must be live within local counties and be 60 years of age or older.
*Amateurs only.
*Entries should be original stories focusing on a special person, a life-altering experience or a significant period in your life.
*The suggested maximum length is 500-750 words.
*Stories must be typed or legibly hand-written on 8.5-by-11-inch paper.
*Entries must have a cover page with the story’s title, the author’s name, date of birth, address, telephone number and email.
*Seniors may submit only one entry.
*Previously published stories may not be submitted.
*Seniors should keep a copy of the story. Entries will not be returned.
